POTENTIAL VITALITY versus KINETIC VITALITY

Abstract

This paper aims to provide a closer understanding and deeper insight into the concept of vitality in psychoanalysis. Based on clinical experience with a child and an adolescent, the author proposes an expansion of the concept to include the definition of vitality in both the register of symbiosis and the register of separation. She pays special attention to vitality in the narcissistic dimension, that is, as a trace of the preservation of primary narcisism.
